A house divided
The video game software development company Unity fired 4% of its team or more than 200 people this week. The layoffs were wide-reaching and affected offices worldwide and people who worked in AI, engineering, legal, marketing, sales and more. People who got cut have one month to look for another job within the company and will get at least one month of severance and health coverage.

Hiring slowdown at Meta
Meta head boss Mark Zuckerberg told employees in a weekly Q&A that the company will hire fewer engineers this year. The original plan called for 10,000 new engineers, but the metaverse company will now only hire 6,000 to 7,000. The top boss also said some roles would go unfilled after people leave and that they would weed out staff in performance reviews.

Return-to-office plans are no joke at Tesla. The car maker sent automated emails to employees who haven’t shown up to the office for at least 16 days in the last month. The company tracks attendance through ID badge swipes and requires managers and an absence-tracking team to clear any absences.

FTX wants to buy Robinhood. The crypto exchange’s billionaire founder didn’t reject the news that leaked this week—only saying there were no “active” conversations.
