Coronavirus’ Impact On Health Insurance
160 million Americans received health insurance through their job, but our recent survey revealed that 77% of Americans are concerned about their job security. With recent unemployment filings we now know that up to 43m Americans could lose health insurance amid the pandemic.
Blind asked its users; “During this pandemic, do you have adequate access to health care?” The survey was answered by 3,000 professionals from across the U.S. 87% responded that they do have adequate access to health care. Moreover, (38%) of professionals have fully paid for employer-provided health insurance, with another (54%) of professionals have partially paid for employer-provided health insurance. With that in mind, 67% of all professionals say Universal healthcare is their chosen alternative to American employer-provided health insurance would make them feel more protected.
Key Findings Source: Blind (5/8 -5 /14) :
- Of the Blind users who are 100% covered by their company, 64% state that universal health care is an alternative to American employer-provided health insurance that would make them feel more protected.
- 47% of professionals who use Blind, do not know what insurance they would opt-in for if they were to lose their current health insurance.
- 29% would opt-in for COBRA professionals on Blind, do not know what insurance they would opt-in for
- 54% of Amazon professionals who Blind, do not know what insurance they would opt-in for
- 100% of Salesforce, Indeed.com, Lyft, and E-bay professionals who use the app, have adequate access to health care during this Pandemic
- Per the survey, Bloomberg is the only company where 100% of professionals who use Blind, say their health insurance is 100% covered by the company
- 30% of Finance professionals responded “None – I like it as is” when asked what alternative to American employer-provided health insurance would make them feel more protected/safer.
The virus is threatening access to employment-based health insurance at a time when Americans need it most. While most of these people will be able to sign up for other sources of coverage, our study reveals that 47% of professionals do not know what that source is. On the more grim side of the coin, millions are doomed to be uninsured in the midst of a pandemic.
About the data pool: The source of this data is from the anonymous professional network, Blind. We refer to all of our users as “professionals”. This number tends to skew higher because of the stock options/RSUs offered as part of their total compensation.
