Uber and Lyft Shut Down?

The decision requiring Uber and Lyft to reclassify their drivers as employees could come as early as this week. 

Blind, the anonymous professional network with over 3.6 million verified users, asked 70 Uber and Lyft corporate employees two simple questions: 

• Do you think Uber and Lyft should classify their drivers as employees?
  • 93% of both Uber and Lyft corporate employees responded “no” 
• Do you believe Uber and Lyft will shut down operations in California?
  • 100% of surveyed Lyft corporate employees responded “yes” 
• 88% of surveyed Uber corporate employees responded “yes” 

The corporate employees at these companies feel strongly against the decision. 

One Uber employee on Blind posted, “Much like a lot of YouTubers rely on YouTube for their livelihood, they too aren’t classified as employees. I understand covid has rendered a lot of people without income, but the gig economy is built on the concept of having unsteady income and complete freedom to work for N number of companies. Politicians are just using this pandemic as a way to give drivers a false impression that they care about them when they clearly don’t”.
