UPDATE: Rumored Layoffs for the Remainder of Q3 2026
At the beginning of this quarter, we released a list of rumored layoffs for the remainder of Q3 in the tech industry. Here’s what ended up shaking out the last three months:
Netflix
- Predicted: According to posts, Netflix is set to layoff 3,000 employees on August 4.
- Actual: Layoffs at Netflix were limited to the Gaming org of the streaming platform.
Pfizer
- Predicted: Pfizer’s New York office is “confirmed” on the layoff list where approximately 2,000 employees will be impacted on August 9.
- Actual: There are ongoing layoffs at the pharma company as part of its major restructuring planned over the next two years. Rather than letting go mass numbers of employees at once, the company seems to be working through different sectors and teams, letting go 25-100 employees at a time.
Salesforce
- Predicted: Also unconfirmed but rumored are layoffs at PayPal on August 24, with a whopping 4,600 employees globally expecting an unwelcome message in their inbox.
- Actual: The company continued layoffs in August, affecting positions across Tableau, Trailhead, community engagements, events, and more. This marks the company’s fourth round of cuts this year.
Expedia
- Predicted: The data is unknown but suspected to be in August. Expedia employees are hearing whispers of over 1,500 employees losing their jobs globally.
- Actual: The cuts at Expedia were smaller and more targeted than expected. In August, eight executives were let go as part of the company’s greater AI-restructuring plan.
